Today EMC announced their new and improved mid-range storage at EMCWorld: say hello to Unity! It will be replacing the VNX1 and VNX2 systems with simple, modern flexible and affordable new platform and can be purchased in either an all-flash or hybrid configuration. There are quite a lot of differences between both the new Unity and the old VNX systems, with a number of improvements (available at GA or later) that make me really, really happy. Let’s dive in!
EMC World
I’m just about ready to start my 18 hour trip to Las Vegas for EMCWorld 2016. The first hop to Miami should be a relatively quiet one (if I can get some sleep); on the second I’ll start to prepare for the madness that will ensue next week. The agenda is packed with good events and new product launches…
Today on February the 1st, EMC announced the EMC Elect 2016. I’m happy to again be part of the EMC Elect, now for the 4th year in a row!
Each year the EMC Elect program selects a number of individuals from all over the world that have shared knowledge on or worthwhile news about EMC systems. It does not matter how you do this: either via EMC’s own community network ECN, on Twitter, via blogs, while speaking at events, or other media. As long as you share your knowledge with the rest of the world, you can get nominated. Yes, even if you have an occasional rant about that feature that your VNX still does not support (*cough* removing private RAID groups from a storage pool *cough*), as long as you keep it constructive; whining is too easy.
Good news (mostly for me, I’ll admit): I’ll be visiting EMC World 2015 again! Just like the last edition EMC World will once again be held in The Venetian in Las Vegas. I’m looking forward to meeting my fellow EMC Elect over there as well as absorbing some new knowledge in the various lectures and/or general sessions which will be held during those days. If you also want to go, I’ve got a discount code you can use… so read on!
