Storage Field Day 12: storage drop bears reunited!

SFD LogoI’m excited to announce I’ll be attending Storage Field Day 12! During the event we’ll talk storage technology for three days, starting on March 8th. There’s an impressive line-up of companies and delegates gathering in Silicon Valley and of course we’ll live stream the presentations for the folks back home, who can pitch in over Twitter. Did I mention the line-up of companies already? Oh boy!

DellEMCWorld 2016 – I’m impressed!

My DellEMCWorld ride from Los Angeles to AustinWhen the news about the Dell and EMC merger became public last year, I was somewhat skeptical. I’ve had some really sketchy experiences with Dell servers and storage products, so it didn’t feel like a step forward. At the same time there was the organizational and support aspect. Mergers usually result in confusion for both sales processes and us people in the field having to glue all the products together. Not something I was looking forward to.

Lo and behold: I got an invite from the EMC Elect program to attend DellEMCWorld in Austin, Texas! This was my chance to fly over there and experience the merger announcements firsthand, plus ask questions. So I did! And I have to say: I was impressed.  Continue reading “DellEMCWorld 2016 – I’m impressed!”

Storage Field Day 11, here I come!

SFD LogoStorage Field Day 11 is taking place on October 5th to 7th in Silicon Valley, and I’m delighted to report: I’ll be one of the delegates again. In fact, this will be my 5th event! Wouldn’t it be awesome if British Airways reads this blog and hands me some champagne to celebrate as soon as we’re in the air…

The Tech Field Days are organized by GestaltIT and follow an efficient concept. A number of companies are invited to present to a number of picked individuals (delegates) and the 2 hour sessions are broadcasted live over the interwebs. The sessions are very interactive: delegates will be asking questions throughout these presentations. People back at home can ask their questions on Twitter (don’t forget the hashtag, which is #SFD11 for this event), and usually one of the delegates will pick it up and voice it towards the presenters.

Ready for Storage Field Day 10!

SFD LogoIn a couple of hours I’ll be airborne again heading west towards Silicon Valley. This time it’s for Storage Field Day 10 or #SFD10 on the Twitters. It’s the usual recipe: 12 delegates from around the world and 9 companies (start-ups and established companies alike) explaining their vision on the storage market and how their products work. I love these events because in three days time we’ll be bombarded with a whole lot of information on existing and upcoming storage tech. In my mind, there’s no other event with this information density: afterwards it usually takes a couple of days to let it all trickle through. Or as we say in Dutch, “make cheese out of it”… (of course it’s about cheese)

On my way to EMCWorld 2016!

I’m just about ready to start my 18 hour trip to Las Vegas for EMCWorld 2016.EMCWorld 2016 first flight AB7000 The first hop to Miami should be a relatively quiet one (if I can get some sleep); on the second I’ll start to prepare for the madness that will ensue next week. The agenda is packed with good events and new product launches…

I will be flying out to Storage Field Day 10!

SFD LogoGood news: I will be flying out to Storage Field Day 10 which will take place in Silicon Valley on May the 24th till the 27th. Nine companies will be presenting, of which one company came out of stealth just yesterday! Some of these companies I’ve met at earlier Storage Field Days and I’m looking forward to the progress they’ve made over the last couple of months.

Wow it’s early – Traveling to Storage Field Day 8

Storage Field Day 8 StroopwafelsTyping this at Schiphol airport, I can’t help feeling slightly tired. The alarm clock started blaring at 03:00 this night and with that, my trip to Storage Field Day 8 has officially started. With the first leg of the journey from DUS to AMS being over already, I can now settle for the long haul to SFO. It’s bound to be an incredibly exciting week once again and I’m looking forward to meeting up with a lot of familiar faces, two new members of the Tech Field Day family and 10 super exciting companies. Stroopwafels incoming!

EMC World 2015 – I’ll be there!

EMC World 2015Good news (mostly for me, I’ll admit): I’ll be visiting EMC World 2015 again! Just like the last edition EMC World will once again be held in The Venetian in Las Vegas. I’m looking forward to meeting my fellow EMC Elect over there as well as absorbing some new knowledge in the various lectures and/or general sessions which will be held during those days. If you also want to go, I’ve got a discount code you can use… so read on!

Storage Field Day 7 is about to start!

SFD7 747 from LHR to SFOWe’ve made it! After a rude alarm clock that woke me up at 3AM CEST back in the Netherlands I started the 2 hour drive to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam. Along the way I picked up Arjan Timmerman whom I met last year at Storage Field Day 6 and together we traveled from AMS to LHR in London. There we met up with Enrico Signoretti (also a familiar face from SFD6) and with the three of us we boarded the 747 to SFO. The Storage Field Day 7 adventure was about to begin!

Storage Field Day 6 Day 0 – Sightseeing and Yankee swap

Storage Field Day 6 Dinner and Yankee swapSo as I posted a while ago, I was invited to attend Storage Field Day 6 in San Jose, California a while ago. Which is happening right now all the way till November 7th 2014. Today was day 0 with a big get together of the 12 delegates and Stephen, Tom and Claire from GestaltIT, the people organizing all the TechField days. After an very tasty dinner at Genji, a local Japanese steakhouse we performed a ritual called the Yankee swap: everyone brings a present. One by one you either decide to keep your gift or swap it with someones gift. Once everyone has made their decision you open it up and be amazed! Good fun!
